As the leading Dunedin seafood grill, here at Sandbar Grill, we know plenty about seafood and we encourage all of you to eat much more of it! We’ve got quite a bit on the menu to choose from, but first, here are a few reasons why you should add more fish and seafood to your diet!

Dunedin Seafood Grill Shares 6 Reasons To Eat More Seafood!

1. Vitamin D!

Did you know that close to half of Americans are deficient in vitamin D? Did you also know that seafood is a great source of vitamin D? Salmon, sardines, and tuna are a great way of supplementing your vitamin D levels during a time when many of us are reluctant to get out and about and spend time in the sun!

2. An Available Protein Source

As we still live facing the fallout of Coronavirus, meat is becoming harder to find on the shelves of grocery stores. Here in Florida, though, we have a fabulous resource or fresh protein to make up for what you may not be able to get your hands on at the grocery store!

3. Omega Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are heart-healthy fats that play an important role in your everyday bodily function. Omega fatty acids reduce inflammation in the body and can also help to lower triglycerides and can even have a positive impact on abnormal heart rhythms.

4. Seafood is Good For Your Mental Health

Seafood is exceptionally beneficial to your cognitive function and overall mental health. In fact, seasonal affective disorder has been linked to lower levels of sun exposure during the winter. The vitamin D in seafood can help to makeup for that lack of vitamin D from the sun. Additionally, the omega fatty acids found in seafood help to supplement the low levels of omega fatty acids that have been found in people who suffer from anxiety and depression.

5. It’s a Healthier Option!

Seafood isn’t just a delicious protein option, but it’s a healthier seafood option too! Whether you are looking to take better care of your heart health or you’re looking to drop a few pounds, seafood is a great way to make it happen! We have an abundance of fresh seafood here in Dunedin and plenty of it is on our grill and ready for your plate!

We recommend giving our blackened mahi-mahi a try if you’re looking for a healthier option from the menu!

6. It’s an IQ Booster!

In an article on her website, internationally recognized nutritionist dietitian, Patricia Bannon cites the benefits of seafood to children and pregnant or nursing women. “According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), seafood consumption is especially important for pregnant or nursing women and moms with young children. Eating fish on a regular basis helps with the growth and development of children’s brains and can even helps boost IQ. FDA research shows that when women of childbearing age consume the recommended two to three servings of fish per week, their babies can gain an estimated 2.6 IQ points.”
